YIMBYs (yes in my back yard) of Northern Virginia will make housing affordable to all by enabling the development of more and denser housing. Attainable homes close to jobs, opportunities, and amenities of daily life enable communities to be more socially connected, economically productive, and sustainable, environmentally and otherwise.
An acute housing shortage is causing the affordability crisis. Zoning, inefficient permitting, and other restrictions have made housing a financial hardship for most people. Moreover, zoning was created to exclude non-white and poor residents. We welcome new neighbors. Learn about our objectives and values.
This 2018 map shows roughly where the Capital region was zoned exclusively for detached single-family homes. Neighborhoods such as Del Ray, Fairlington, and Ballston show denser housing takes many forms suited to different needs. The housing affordability crisis threatens Northern Virginia's extraordinary diversity — its most unique attribute and greatest strength. YIMBYs want NoVA to be a great place for anyone to build a life.

Reform structures that incentivize communities to say no to new homes, including tax systems and car centric transportation systems.

Enact policies that support current residents having stable housing choices amid growth.
