Metro Developments
Within the next 10 years, the Ashburn Metro Station's south side, currently empty flat land, will see massive change in mixed-use developments.
However, we need to ensure that this doesn't become dead, corporate slop apartment buildings that have no community atmosphere. Instead, this area needs to be more like One Loudoun where there are retail and residential near each other, but it's lively and attractive.
This development should replicate that as well as being transit accessible, attracting ridership and awareness to good urbanism.
Near Innovation Center's north exit between Route 28 and 267, a new development known as Rivana has begun to emerge. There will be 103 acres of mixed-use development including 3.5 million square feet of office and parks/recreational centers.
Why We Support These
We support these developments because it's mixed-use transit-oriented development but does not look like it will be dead when it is built. We want to avoid "corporate urban slop" and create new, lively communities that are also transit-accessible.
